Bill Cosby Biographer Apologizes for Not Writing About the Sexual Assault Charges

Posted on November 25, 2014

As more and more women come forward to accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault and rape, Cosby's biographer has come under scrutiny. Mark Whittaker, a former CNN, NBC and Newsweek executive wrote Cosby: His Life and Times (Simon and Schuster), a 500 page biography that came out in September.

The book makes no mention of the issue. Now his fellow journalists are calling out Whitaker on his sloppy reporting and refusal to explore the rape allegations in the book, which were well-known for many years to anyone in the industry. David Carr wrote an article in The New York Times called "Calling Out Bill Cosby’s Media Enablers, Including Myself," which examines why so many people in the media and television covered for Cosby's crimes.

The Washington Post has a thorough recap of all the allegations and they are horrifying. From assault to outright rape, Cosby cut a wide swath. Now insiders are telling stories of underage girls who were drugged, and handlers who routinely lined up girls for the comedian at any gig he had.

Whitaker has now apologized for not addressing the allegations in his biography. He tweeted to Carr, "@carr2n David you are right. I was wrong to not deal with the sexual assault charges against Cosby and pursue them more aggressively. I am following new developments and will address them at the appropriate time. If true the stories are shocking and horrible."

There is talk of revising the book, but so far Simon and Schuster hasn't announced any such plans. There are so many allegations, it seems more appropriate for there to be a new book to deal with them and the womens' lives he ruined.
