Dick Van Dyke Inks Deal for Book on Aging

Posted on January 2, 2015

Dick Van Dyke has inked a deal with Weinstein Books to write a new book which will be released next December. The book will be called Keep Moving: And Other Tips About Old Age and will be published on the legendary actor's 90th birthday on December 13, 2015.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Van Dyke will share his approach to aging and staying active. The cornerstone of Van Dyke's lifestyle is to keep active. He says he has always exercised. He told Conan O'Brien recently that when he was younger he exercised to look good. When he hit 50 he exercised to stay fit. Now he says he exercises to stay out of assisted living.

Van Dyke said in a statement that he "won't sugarcoat anything" about aging. He says, "Yes, your knees do hurt, your hair thins, you lose loved ones, and your memory can act like a friend who doesn’t answer the phone. But I'm going to assure people that there is a beautiful life waiting for you. There's no reason to feel bad about getting old if you do it right.."

The star of the long-running tv hits The Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder as well as films such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins and Night at the Museum, is still acting. He currently appears as Cecil Fredricks in Ben Stiller's latest film Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, which is in theaters now.

In this clip you can watch Van Dyke try to teach Conan O'Brien how to dance a soft shoe routine. Van Dyke looks absolutely amazing and still has the moves. Conan, of course, looks very silly. Take a look:
