The books will be released worldwide in hardover, ebook and audiobook. There will also be foreign language editions of the books. Each book will embody the TED mantra which is being a worldwide platform for "ideas worth spreading." The books will be short, only about 20,000 words,

Books in the pipeline include The Virtue of Stillness by travel writer Pico Iyer, , How We'll Live on Mars by journalist Stephen Petranek, Follow Your Gut by biologist Rob Knight, Storytelling in the Age of Distraction by New Yorker.com editor Nicholas Thompson, and The Terrorist's Son: Escaping Jihad by non-violence advocate Zak Ebrahim. TED speaker and jacket artist Chip Kidd will design the cover art for the books.

Jonathan Karp, President and Publisher of the Simon & Schuster Publishing Group, had this to say about the new collection. "TED has mastered the art of launching intelligent conversations about important ideas, and these books will provide TED speakers past and future with the opportunity to go beyond their talks and take readers deeper into their work."

Executive Producer of TED Media, June Cohen, said, "In the eight years since we made TED Talk videos available for free online, we've seen how millions of people globally are eager to engage with new ideas," said Executive Producer of TED Media, June Cohen. "We feel fortunate to have a partner like Simon & Schuster that understands how to amplify ideas, and can provide avenues to make TED Books available around the world."
