The Hollywood Reporter reports that Stephen King's classic horror novel It will be made into a feature film. The book has already made into a television miniseries in which Tim Curry played the creepy clown Pennyworth, who is actually an inter-dimensional predator that uses its victims' fears to disguise itself. Its favorite disguise to lure to lure children to their deaths is Pennyworth the Dancing Clown. A group of children defeat It in a battle, but it returns years later. The group must keep their solemn promise to reunite if It returned.

Cary Fukunaga Jane Eyre will direct. He will co-author the script with Dune screenwriter Chase Palmer. Seth Grahame-Smith, the bestselling author of Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer will co-produce. The book is so long that the plan is to make it into two films.

The tv series had to gloss over many of the truly horrific elements of the book. If the movie gets a hard R rating, it could be pretty intense.
