Tommy Hilfiger Inks Memoir Deal

Posted on February 14, 2015

Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger just signed a deal with the Random House imprint Ballantine Books for a memoir. Hilfiger is the founder of the multi-billion dollar global lifestyle brand that bears his name. The book will be released in the fall of 2015 to coincide with the 30 year anniversary of the founding of the brand.

In the memoir Hilfiger will tell the story of his life: from his childhood to today. Hilfiger will delve into the personal stories of his childhood, how he became interested in fashion and how he managed to open his own clothing store while he was still in high school.

Hilfiger said in a statement, "Reflecting on my experiences in the fashion industry over the last 30-plus years has been a wild ride, filled with milestone moments that have defined both my career and personal life. I always believe the best is yet to come, but so far: it's been the adventure of a lifetime." The project has really hit home with the designer. He's been posting fascinating photos of his early years on his twitter account, such as this one from his first storefront.

The Hilfiger brand is a mix of classic East Coast prep and pop culture. He has expanded the original brand from menswear to include womenswear, Hilfiger Denim, kidswear, accessories, fragrance, and home wares. Hilfiger founded his fashion label in 1985 and broke new ground in the 1990s by sponsoring the tours of The Rolling Stones. Today celebrities regularly front for fashion labels, but Hilfiger was one of the first to use mega stars such as Lenny Kravitz, David Bowie and Beyoncé in his ad campaigns.

Hilfiger has been around a long time in the industry and is known for his work esthetic. This book will be a hot gift item for aspiring designers and business people alike.
