Da Vinci Code Spinoffs Fill Book Shelves

Posted on May 31, 2006

If you have been to the bookstore lately you have probably seen massive displays featuring The Da Vinci Code hardcovers and paperbacks, as well as other novels by author Dan Brown. In addition, bookstores are also displaying countless other related books covering topics like Leonardo Da Vinci, Mary Magdalen, ancient codes, the Knights Templar and Opus Dei. Then on another table are stacks of books which claim to debunk all the facts and ideas contained in the Da Vinci Code. It's all evidence that the Da Vinci Code has inspired readers to dig much deeper into ancient codes and religious history.

In fact you could say that The Da Vinci Code has created a new genre of books, all based on the ideas in the novel. There's even a travel guide from Fodor's that helps you find the historical places discussed in the book and film. If you want to own all the Da Vinci Code related literature you may have to devote an entire room to the project. The News & Observer has an article with some spinoffs they'd like to see including a Tom Hanks custom hair weave; a Tori Amos album called "Songs of the Sacred Feminine"; and a Capture the Grail game based on capture the flag.
