Isabel Allende to Publish New Novel With Atria Books

Posted on March 10, 2015

Atria Books has announced that it will publish a new novel by author Isabel Allende. Atria has also acquired four titles from her backlist. Her books have sold over 65 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over 35 languages.

The new novel, The Japanese Lover, is described as a multi-generational love story. It moves back and forth between present day San Francisco and the time period of the World War II in Poland and the U.S. The novel takes readers inside the U.S. internment camps where Japanese Americans were imprisoned.

Isabel Allende says in a statement, "I am delighted to become an Atria author. My recent novel, The Japanese Lover, could not be in better hands. I think my new publisher will open new venues and gain new readers for my work."

Allende was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014 by President Obama. A post here on the Isabel Allende blog says Johanna Castillo of Atria Books kept Isabel's name on her idea board at work and contacted her agent every year for the past ten years for a chance to speak with her. Isabel's most recent novel, Ripper, was released in paperback by Harper Perennial in January. The Japanese Lover will arrive in bookstores this fall.
