Librarians Steamed Over Overdue Books

Posted on November 19, 2004

Beware the wrath of an angered librarian. Librarians in Bay City, Michigan are hopping mad about patrons who check out books and never return them. They are demanding that book thieves be sent to jail for up to 90 days. The librarians claim its patrons keep $25,000 in overdue materials out of the system each year on average.

The USA Today article quotes Bay City library sysyem director Frederick J. Paffhausen as saying, "We want to go after some of the people who owe us a lot of money. We want to set an example."

Paffhausen is especially peeved by one unnamed library patron from Bad Axe who owes $1,190 for 73 science fiction books he's had for more than a year. We hope Mr. SF-Hoarder has a good attorney; it sounds like Director Paffhausen isn't fooling around.
