Author Lois Lowry earned her second Newbery Medal in 1994 for her bestselling dystopian young adult novel, The Giver. Now the popular novel is being released as a feature film on August 14, 2015. The film stars Brenton Thwaites, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes and Taylor Swift and Jeff Bridges.

Thwaites plays a young man who comes of age in a seemingly utopian society that prizes sameness and uniformity. Careers are assigned. When he is assigned to be a Giver, he is trained by the current Giver who is the holder of knowledge that no one else in the community is allowed to know. He retains the memories in case they are needed. The more he learns about what is really going on, the more decisions he will face about his future. The trailer is quite promising. Take a look:
