Posted on June 20, 2013

William Morrow has announced it will publish sports journalist Al Michaels' autobiography. The book will be written with Sports Illustrated executive editor L. Jon Wertheim.

Al Michaels has covered more major sports events than any other sportscaster, including 20 years as the play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football, and 7 years of Sunday Night Football. He was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) Hall of Fame in 1998 and in March 2013, he was inducted into the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame.

In the book, Michaels will talk about his Brooklyn childhood rooting for the Dodgers, NY Rangers and the NY Football Giants. He will also discuss his TV work from ABC's Wide World of Sports, Monday Night Football and more. Some of the sports events covered in the book will be the historic 1980 Olympic hockey tournament and the earthquake that halted the World Series in 1989. He will also covers sports luminaries such as John Wooden, Pete Rose, Phil Jackson, Peyton and Eli Manning, Dennis Miller and Doc Rivers.

Michaels said in a statement, "Through the years, I've recounted stories to countless numbers of people and at some point the response is almost always, 'You HAVE to write a book.' Well, the time has come and I'm very excited about sharing insights into some of the most extraordinary sports happenings over the last forty years."
